“How all things connect” explores the mind and the destructive changes that arise due experiences that an individual goes through. And as the title suggests, everything is interconnected, and every event links back to something. External factors are constantly affecting the internal factors. A human mind is not strong, it is in fact weak. Their mind cannot take much before experiencing a mental strain such as getting emotional, upset or aggravated which leads to the path of destruction. Can a mind be trained to a certain way, or is a mind unchanging. The experiences that an individual goes through will inevitably form a mindset in their mind. The experiences would lead the individual to have their own morals, ethics and philosophies that they believe in. Negative experiences will lead to a negative mind.
These frames all have different rates of destruction. Slowly but surely, all the frames would be cracked and destroyed. The yarns connecting the frames, the walls are representative of how complex the mind is. One will lead to another, nothing is ever on its own. Once a little seed of destruction is planted, it will cause the entire thing to crumble and destroy. The yarns are also meant for one to feel trapped, after all, the mind is a complex thing that is difficult to navigate. One such example is that if an individual goes through immense hardships and finds life to be meaningless, that leads to something similar as a nihilistic mindset. However, an individual can only form this mindset, after going through all these experiences, which is in line with existentialism. The belief that one’s reason to live is formed through the process of self discovery (which is then linked to having experiences). Yet again, they are connected.
What hardships did you think this mind went through? Was it something very traumatic? Dark and depressing? or just something small? Every individual has their own idea of how much suffering a person can take before it will destroy them. And this work invites viewers to think how much suffering is too much.
