Religious Sculpture

The chalice is meant to be the inanimate form of a heavenly being. I chose a chalice because a chalice is used to hold the wine which represents blood during holy communion. In the bible the book of Hebrews 9:14, it is stated that, “ How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”
The blood is meant to cleanse our sins. I wanted the church goes to feel as if their sins are being taken and forgiven. Angels carries out God’s plans, messages, and wills. Through this, I hope believers would feel as if God is guiding and giving them messages.
The church I chose is the Church of the Saint Alphonsus, he is a redemptorist, wanting to evangelise through traditional teachings. This sculpture would allow non believers to be more exposed to the religion and be more interested in the religion, helping with Saint Alphonsus’ mission.
However, do not pray or worship the sculpture, the sculpture is not the inanimate from of God but of an Angels, Angels are messengers of Gods, they are not to be worshipped. As can be seen from the bible in the book of Revelation 19:10,” At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
